Which Shifts Do You Experience?

A shift is a temporary, non-physical experience of feeling more like your theriotype. This quiz maps how strongly you relate to each main shift type — mental, phantom, sensory, dream, astral, and feral — onto a spider chart you can share.

Types of Therian Shifts

Mental shifts change your headspace; phantom shifts are felt limbs like a tail or wings; sensory shifts sharpen your focus; dream shifts happen while you sleep; astral shifts are spiritual; and feral shifts are intense, emotion-driven surges. Learn more in the glossary.

One Important Safety Note

Not every therian shifts, and that's completely normal. And remember: physical shifting is not real — anyone claiming to teach it (especially for money) is running a scam. See our safety page.

How the Shift Quiz Works

The quiz has 18 statements over two pages, with three for each of the six shift types. You rate each statement on a seven-step scale from "Not me at all" to "That's so me", with "Sort of" as the neutral middle.

Unlike our other quizzes, each statement here counts toward only one shift. For example, "I can feel a tail, ears, or other body parts that aren't physically there" counts only toward phantom shifts. This keeps the six scores independent of each other, so a high score on one shift never lowers another.

Your answers to each group of three are added up and turned into a percentage of the highest possible score. Your results come in two parts:

You can copy your results as text to share them.

The Six Shift Types on the Chart

Reading Your Spider Chart

The shape often says more than any single number:

Shift experiences can overlap with things anyone might feel, like an animal dream or a sharp focus on sounds. A high score shows that you relate to these descriptions, but it doesn't prove you're a therian.

Shifting Safely, and What to Try Next

A few things are worth keeping in mind. Shifts are non-physical, and your body never changes. If you like moving like your animal during a mental shift, for example with quadrobics, warm up your wrists and shoulders first and stop if anything hurts. A feral shift is never a reason to hurt anyone, and if strong emotions often feel out of control, it's worth talking to a trusted adult or a counsellor. They can help with the emotions, which are the real issue, not your identity. Our therian safety guide covers this in more depth.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions are in the shift quiz?

There are 18 statements, three for each of the six shift types, spread over two pages. It takes a few minutes.

I scored 0% on some shifts. Is something wrong?

No. A 0% simply means you answered "Sort of" or lower for that shift's statements. Many therians never experience some kinds of shift, and some don't shift at all.

Which shift is the most common?

Mental shifts are the most widely discussed in the community, with phantom shifts close behind. There's no reliable count, though, and everyone's mix is different.

Can the quiz teach me to physically shift?

No, and nothing can. Physical shifting is impossible. Anyone offering to teach it, especially for money or personal information, is running a scam that often targets young people. Read more on our safety page.

Do I have to believe in astral shifts to take this quiz?

No. If astral or spiritual experiences aren't part of your life, answer "Not me at all" and that arm of the chart will stay at zero. Spiritual and psychological views of therianthropy are both treated as valid here.
